Most of us like to eat Chocolate especially during the holiday periods such as Christmas and Easter. We buy it as a gift for our loved ones for birthdays and Valentine’s Day. Around this time, we consume more than average The debate on if chocolate is bad for our health is one that has gone on for many years and one of the biggest questions we ask ourselves “Is Chocolate Really As Bad For Our Teeth As We Think?

Dark Chocolate contain Flavonoids which are known to slow tooth decay, there dark chocolate may even help prevent cavities according to some studies. It is also contains Antioxidants which are good for your general health and when it comes to oral hygiene and health, having higher levels of these antioxidants in your saliva can help fight against gum disease.
The main reason for these benefits is that Dark chocolate is made up of around 70% cocoa and only 30% powdered milk and sugar. This means that compared to Milk chocolate the detrimental effect that it could have on tooth enamel is greatly reduced.
When it comes to the more popular Milk chocolate the news is not so good. The reason behind this is that The breakdown is usually 20-30% real cocoa, with the balance consisting of sugar and powdered milk. These means the risk of tooth decay and cavities is greatly increased
So to sum up Eating Chocolate in moderation can have both positive and negative effects on your teeth. As the article shows Dark Chocolate can have some great benefits while Milk chocolate is not so good for you.
Remember however that taking good care of your teeth is equally important whichever chocolate you choose to eat. Make sure you keep your mouth healthy by brushing and flossing on a daily basis and attend regular checkups with your Dentist

WHAT IS GINGIVITIS ?
Simply put it is inflammation of the gum tissue. The most common form is known as plaque-induced gingivitis which is caused when plague attaches itself to the surface of your teeth.
It is the most common form of periodintal disease and allways precedes more serious conditions such as chronic periodontitis.
This non destructive disease is reversible with good oral hygiene but faliure to have treatment can see it quickly progress to periodontitis, where the inflammation results in tissue and bone destruction around the teeth, which can ultimately lead to tooth loss.

Newborns and Infants
Clean your infant's gums with a clean, damp cloth after each feeding.
Once their first teeth appear you should begin brushing them with a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and water up untill their second birthday. Before using toothpaste should consult your dentist .
Tooth decay and teeth misalignment due to sucking during feeding can be a problem so you should try to wean your child off of the breast and bottle within the first year. Another cause is the excessive sucking of pacifiers, fingers and thumbs so you need to monitor this .
You should never give your child a bottle of milk, juice or sweetened liquid as a pacifier at naptime or bedtime.
Toddlers and Young Children
As our children grow it is important that we help then brush their teeth at night which is regarded as the most important time to brush, due to lower salivary flow and higher susceptibility to cavities. A good way to do this is to allow your children to brush first and then you should follow us to ensure that all plaque , waste food etc has gone. Allowing the child to brush first is an ideal way to help them to build up self confidence and practice the technique of brushing.
Another great tip is to make it a family affair, Brush your teeth at the same time as your child, this will teach the child the technique, and the importance of good dental hygene. It also makes the process fun for the child
At around five years of age your children should be able to brush their own teath although you should still continue to monitor and advise them as they do it.

1. Try taking Motrin (ibuprofen) as this will help ease the pain and help with any inflammation. Motrin is available over the counter. Take only recommended dosage.

5. Use Dental Floss to remove any food trapped between teeth. Do not use sharp objects.
6. Other home remedy to try is use of Clove Oil. Clove oil is available in general stores or herbal stores.
7. See the dentist as soon as possible and Treat the Cause when you visit the dentist.
